Formerly, the family of the novelist Eça de Queiroz lived here, whose sublime books marked the Portuguese language as much as the Palacete de Valdemouro marks the center of Aveiro. For this reason, the concept and decoration of the hotel are inspired by the life and work of the writer and diplomat.

In addition to the themed rooms, all truly unique, with the names of iconic characters created by the writer, the collection available in the hotel's reading room, provided by the Eça de Queiroz Foundation, and a true contemporary work of art: the mural created by Alexandre Farto aka Vhils that honors Eça de Queiroz. With the aim of unveiling the hidden layers of history that lie beneath the surface, the artistic installation “Scratching the Surface – Eça” connects past and present in a timeless piece.
